We looked at a number of options on the island from re-sale to purchasing land and building our own villa. We chose the development at Coral Cay as it satisfied our criteria.
We needed three bedrooms for our family, we wanted a modern open plan build that was light and airy and offered us ample space without wasting any and with all the bedrooms in the same building accessed by an internal staircase (a lot of villas in Samui don’t have this). We wanted to have state of the art technology with wifi available in every room and high definition multi-media TV with Bose surround sound and wanted to furnish it with funky bright colours and a minimalist style. It was important to have air-conditioning in every room not just the bedrooms but also have fully opening glass windows that could be opened to create an indoor/outdoor space and allow the air to circulate on an evening. Welcome to Villa Erawan.
Downstairs is open plan featuring the modern western kitchen with breakfast bar, large dining table and a comfortable, funky seating area with a large 55 inch LCD flat screen TV. It has a cleverly designed downstairs toilet which opens to the side of the villa and so if someone needs the loo whilst playing in the swimming pool, they don’t need to traipse water into the villa. There is also an outside shower for your après swim rinse!
The three comfortable bedrooms feature king beds, en-suite bathrooms, two of which have stone baths as well as a free standing shower. These bathrooms have a viewing window so you can relax in your warm bath whilst you savour the view out to sea. Fully opening glass windows lead to a balcony that runs the length of the house. There are fitted wardrobes and vanity units in each of the bedrooms and flat screen media-TVs too.
The infinity pool is a major feature. It is L shaped with a small splash pool for the little ones and a jacuzzi seat for cooling down on or just swim up to the edge and watch the world go by. The patio has outside seating and table and sun beds to relax on.
One of our key requirements was a quiet environment away from party town. Somewhere not overdeveloped but within a short drive of restaurants, bars and a convenience store. It was also important for us to be able to walk to a restaurant so we could all have a few cocktails. Villa Erawan is a short walk from Code Hotel and if you fancy a meal in the restaurant or a drink at the bar, you can easily do this. The food is excellent and there is also a Spa.
If the kids are a little fractious, a bit tired or over hot, stick them in an air-conditioned bedroom, close the curtains and choose one of the many kids films or tv shows that the multi-media system has to offer, and let them re-charge their batteries for their next adventure … while you chill in front of the pool – relax.
